Love is not about being with someone who can make you feel complete, but someone with whom you can share your incompleteness.

Juhi is an ageing prostitute doing her best to look after her 12-year-old son, Kaku, who uses a wheelchair. Debu is a penniless singer, a closeted gay man who finds himself living on the streets after being dumped by his boyfriend. When the two run into one another in the middle of a monsoon, Debu convinces Juhi to let him move in as a babysitter for her son. As the bond between the three of them grows stronger, Juhi begins to reconsider everything she thought she knew about family, friendship and love.

A distinctly modern Bollywood tale with a heart of gold, Two Paise is the feature film debut from a legend of the Indian screen, Deepti Naval. Starring Rajit Kapur (who also joins this year’s Asia Pacific Screen Awards Jury), Naval’s film is a bold example of new Indian filmmaking – a work that tackles themes of sexuality and acceptance rarely seen in Indian cinema.
