“Powerfully acted, disturbing and suspenseful…confirms Farhadi’s shrewd judgment of pace, dramatic technique and formal control of an ensemble cast.”The Guardian

On a whim, a group of old friends head to the Caspian Sea for a weekend away. Planted among the married couples and their children are two newcomers – recently divorced Ahmad and local teacher Elly – who have been brought along as a matchmaking exercise by the mischievous Sepideh. But when an accident plunges the group into crisis and Elly is nowhere to be found, recriminations start flowing and long-buried tensions burst back into life.

About Elly received four nominations at the 2009 Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA), winning Best Screenplay and the Grand Jury Prize. Released two years before the breakout success of A Separation, About Elly displays Farhadi’s unerring talent for drawing remarkable nuance from everyday social interactions – particularly at the places where niceties begin to fray and tear apart.
