A magnificent cinematic event, The Dead Lands is a bold and energetic revenge story set in a time long before New Zealand made European contact, when Maori were the only human beings in their world. Shot completely in the Maori language, the film is New Zealand’s official submission for the 2015 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Renowned and beloved photographer William Yang was born in North Queensland. William has had photographic exhibitions around the world and in Australia; and was a significant contributor to The China Project at the Queensland Art Gallery I Gallery of Modern Art in 2009.

BAPFF is proud to invite William to present the gala world premiere of William Yang: Blood Links, in which William narrates, through photographs and images, his personal experience growing up as an Australian-Chinese. At once artistic, intimate and relevant, this cross-cultural story is one of the centrepieces of the BAPFF program.

Celebrate the cinematic spectacle of Bollywood at BAPFF with the Australian premiere of Two Paise for Sunshine, Four Annas for Rain, presented by the film’s star Rajit Kapur, in Brisbane as a member of the Asia Pacific Screen Awards International Jury. Actress Deepti Naval’s directorial debut is a bold example of new Indian filmmaking – a work that tackles themes of sexuality and acceptance rarely seen in Indian cinema.
